ADOPTION SERVICES

POST ADOPTION SERVICES IN MICHIGAN
Post adoption services include an adult adoptee seeking information from his/her adoption file, seeking a copy of his/her original birth record to establish citizenship in another country or membership in a Native American Indian tribe, or seeking to reunite with a former family member. Post adoption services also include a former family member seeking information about an adult adoptee or seeking to reunite with an adult adoptee.
I authored a manual titled, Finding Michigan Adoption Information & Reuniting with Former Family Members. This manual empowers the holder to self-navigate the post adoption terrain; finding records, acquiring information and locating former family members. This manual further empowers American Indian/Alaska Native adoptees and their families to ascertain heritage and membership in a respective Indian tribe. This manual ensures each holder consistency in the application of Michigan statutes and case law that govern the release of adoption information by courts, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, and child placing agencies. The manual provides my professional tips at the end of nearly all chapters.

This book serves as a practical guide for unraveling the complexities of Michigan’s adoption system. It introduces readers to the Central Adoption Registry, explaining its function and how it facilitates family connections. The book takes a straightforward approach to requesting adoption records, even breaking down the costs, services, and criteria for fee waivers in a way that’s easy to follow. By mapping out the tools and resources available, it demystifies the process of uncovering adoption history. Whether you’re an adoptee or part of the adoptive or biological family, this book is a useful companion for anyone seeking to bridge the gaps in their family history.
The book is an incredibly thorough and informative guide to post-adoption information gathering and requests. It is a quick and simple resource for anyone looking for information about birth parents, the role of the Central Adoptions Registry, the Vital Records Office, etc. “Mark’s Tips” give well-reasoned explanations and advice for seeking post-adoption information.
This book is full of details and “Mark’s tips” and they are extremely helpful. He lays everything and more out for anyone to have success looking for their biological family. Mark has put time and effort into making sure an adoptee knows all that they can know to find their family members. It is possible and he walks you through how. This is the second book that I have read by the author, and it is obvious his passion for adoptees.
This book is an amazing source for anyone wanting to look into adoption information or find former family members. In this detailed guide Mark goes through real life scenarios and does almost all of the research for you. It’s an excellent complement to his other book, Adopting a Child from the Michigan Child Welfare System, but it’s also a great resource on its own. I highly recommend Mark’s book if you’re interested in learning the how-to of the process, and what information you can gain access to.
